A Blog on Blackboard

I added a blog to two of my Blackboard sites (groups 5 and 6). I asked the students to blog about their opinion of the classes so far. I think they can do this anonymously as I checked that box. So far, I've had no takers. I hope they respond. For one thing I'd like to know if it's working. I'll check again tomorrow.

  1. I use the Survey feature of Blackboard to get feedback on my classes. I ask specific questions, such as "What technology would you like to see in the ideal class?" or "What English class activity do you enjoy the least?" Some students don't respond at all, although they are graded on participation, but many post insightful comments. Do you think some ESL students may be afraid they are criticizing the teacher unless they comment glowingly?

  2. Absolutely! We have to really convince them that the purpose is to make us better teachers in the same way that we're trying to make them better students!
